Post image for Obituary: Timothy Reardon McHugh, 69

Timothy Reardon McHugh, 69, formerly of Southborough, set off on his final sail surrounded by family, on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 after a long and courageous battle against early-onset Alzheimers disease.

Born in South Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late James Francis and the late Katherine (Reardon) McHugh. Tim was a proud graduate of Portsmouth Abbey in Rhode Island and the University of Notre Dame, where he received a B.A. in Government and International Relations and was captain of the lacrosse team. Growing up on the water, Tim became an Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard in January 1971. For 2 years, he served on the USCGC Vigilant, based in New Bedford, and in staff positions in Boston and Washington for an additional four years. While in Washington, Tim participated in negotiations with foreign governments on issues concerning international fishing boundaries and served as a liaison with Congress and Federal agencies regarding enforcing international fisheries law.

Following his time in the U.S. Coast Guard, Tim graduated from the Washington College of Law at American University. Tim practiced admiralty law in Boston for over 25 years, was an adjunct professor at the New England School of Law, and Director Emeritus of the Coast Guard Foundation. He began his career as an attorney with Hoch, Flanagan & Snyder, and from 1985 | 1999 Tim was in private practice with Hoch & McHugh. For the next 5 years, Tim was Of Counsel at Looney and Grossman. Before retiring in 2008, he was in private practice in Southborough.

Tim served on Southborough’s personnel board and other ad hoc committees. He coached youth soccer and girls youth lacrosse teams. Tim knew and loved every inch of Southborough. He also loved to sail, hike, ski, play lacrosse, toss the Frisbee, talk politics, read history and watch New England sports. Tim got the most joy from telling silly, sarcastic jokes bringing a smile to those around him. His laughter was infectious and will be forever missed. Tims biggest battle was against Alzheimer’s. His sense of humor gave him strength to face Alzheimers with dignity and courage. His true, loving and warm nature shined through his disease and warmed our aching hearts.

Tim will be dearly missed by his three children Emily, Matthew and Samantha McHugh; his siblings James F. McHugh, III, and his wife Katherine, of Charlestown; Abigail A. Charlet and her husband Andre, of Lyon, France; and Thomas M. McHugh and his wife Brook, of Alexandria, VA; many nieces and nephews; and his former wife Wendy J. (Schneider) McHugh. He is predeceased by his first wife Jane S. (Mackechnie) McHugh. Tim’s family would like to thank Eliot Healthcare of Natick, Home Instead Senior Care, and Constellation Hospice Services whose compassion and kindness provided Tim with comfort in his final years.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 4 from 4-7 pm at Morris Funeral Home 40 Main Street, Southborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 5 at 11:30 AM at St. Annes Church, 20 Boston Road in Southborough In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Tims memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/timothymchugh. Post image for Obituary: Joan Lorraine (Rais) Roberts, 88

Joan Lorraine (Rais) Roberts, a long-time resident of Framingham and Southborough, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 29, 2018. Joan was born on May 15, 1930, the daughter of the late Constas and Alice (Coppers) Rais.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Herb in 1993 and her beloved sister Kathleen Treanor in 1976.

Joan is survived by five adoring children: Michael and his wife Julia of Stonington, CT; Lisa of Washington, DC; Roy of Sudbury, MA; Eric and his wife Sonia of Bedford, NH, and Janet of Southborough, MA.

She leaves behind five cherished grandchildren: Wilson, Samantha, Alison, Savona, and Camden.

She is also survived by her brother Robert Rais of New Castle, NH, and her sister Constance Skawinski of Washington Crossing, PA, and many nieces, a nephew, and their children, who will all miss her dearly.

Joan was born in New York and spent a number of years living, working, and socializing in New York City.

In 1956, she married Herbert Roberts and they lived in Philadelphia and New York while starting a family. In 1967, the still-growing family of six moved to Framingham where they grew to a family of seven and lived for over 25 years. In Framingham, Joan raised her 5 children, and was involved in the community in many ways. She enjoyed her job running the Pumpkin Seed Gift Shop at Framingham Union Hospital and the gift shop at the Danforth Museum. Joan worked at Barnes & Noble in Shoppers’ World for over 10 years and loved being part of the team, dressing up for midnight releases of Harry Potter books. She retired as their most senior employee.

In 1999, Joan moved to Southborough and was an involved member of her community where her neighbors at Southborough Meadows and the parishioners of St. Anne’s became wonderful friends.

In recent years she was a resident of Carmel Terrace and then St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham. This community became an extension of Joan’s family, and the love and care she received from everyone there enriched her life and was deeply appreciated by her family.

Joan was a most devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt, community member, and friend. She always enjoyed listening to music and loved to dance. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a fun spirit. Spending time with her family was truly her greatest joy and she will be very much missed by all.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her funeral Mass on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11:00 am. The service will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 190 Meetinghouse Rd, Bedford NH.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral home visiting hours.
